Rooms: Set permitted subjects (room permissions)

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Summary

What this is: Rooms and room ID codes are imported from your MIS/SIS, but you must set permitted subjects for each room so the system knows where lessons can be placed.
Why it matters: During timetable generation, lessons can only be scheduled into rooms that permit the subject. If a subject is not permitted in any room, lessons for that subject will not be created.

About rooms and MIS import

Rooms (and their ID codes) are imported automatically from your MIS/SIS. To ensure lessons are placed correctly during timetable generation, set permitted subjects for each room.

How to assign permitted subjects

  • Individual room — In the room list, select the pencil icon under Actions. Then select all subjects that can be taught in that room. You can assign multiple subjects to one room.
  • Multiple rooms — Use the tick boxes on the left to select all rooms that should allow the same subject(s). Click Add subject(s) at the top of the table, choose the subject(s), then select Save room(s).

Example: Editing a room to assign permitted subjects.

How room permissions affect timetable generation

During generation, subject-to-room permissions determine where lessons can be scheduled. If a subject is not permitted in any room, lessons for that subject will not be created in your timetable.

Example: A subject that is not permitted in any room will be excluded during generation.

Tip: Specialised Room - If a subject requires a specific type of room, ensure it is explicitly permitted in those rooms. For example, Physical Education (PE) may require both a practical space (e.g. Sports hall) and a classroom for theory lessons.
